Comeback Falls Short in Davis

DAVIS, Calif. – UC Riverside headed to Northern California tonight to take on the UC Davis Aggies in a Big West Conference matchup. Both teams trying to find points to move into playoff position for the Big West Conference Tournament.

It was a tough start for the Highlanders.

In the fifth minute the Aggies got on the board on a goal by Nami Banks. He got it past Giancarlo Sagredo in the upper right corner of the goal. Then in the 23' minute Banks scored again, this time in the upper left corner.

After a quick 2-0 lead for UC Davis the Aggies would capitalize on a shot by Zack Lillington making it 3-0. All three goals for UC Davis came within the first 25 minutes of the match.
The Highlanders did not record their first shot on goal until the 40' off the foot by Eric Martinez. A couple of minutes later Kevin Meza had a good look and it was saved again by the Aggies' Noah Schwengeler.

When the second half started the Highlanders' Andrew Hermosillo replaced Salgredo in net.

In the 56' the Highlanders got on the board on a goal by Adrian Diaz. For Diaz it was his second goal of the year. Kevin Meza picked up his first assist of the year.

With new life for UC Riverside they quickly scored again, this time in the 60'. Wyatt Ponting found the back of the net for the second time of the year and for Eric Martinez it was assist number six.

In the 67', Jackson D'Alessandro had a chance to tie the game but Schwengeler came up with a big save. The was the last shot on goal for the Highlanders. They had a couple of chances that were either blocked or off target.
