RIVERSIDE, Calif. – UC Riverside (7-12, 3-6 Big West) returned to the SRC Arena on Thursday night with a tall task against Cal Poly (16-5, 7-2 Big West), falling 3-0 to the Mustangs on Y2K Night.
The Highlanders got off to a strong start against one of the conference's best offenses after Kylie Proctor's kill cut the Mustangs' lead to 9-7 in set one. Vanessa Imoh and Mia Delahoussaye led UCR in set one with two kills apiece.
UC Riverside went on a 5-2 run prior to the first media break. The Highlanders began distributing their attack in set two with six players accounting for a kill at the first media timeout. Imoh continued her recent hot streak, hitting .222 at the first second set break to keep UCR close.
The Highlanders hit .200 as a unit in set two.
A thunderous block from Proctor cut the deficit to five in set three as the freshman logged her third block assist of the night, and the Highlanders fought off several Cal Poly match points at the end of set three.
Imoh led the Highlanders with 10 kills (10-5-22), hitting .222 on the night.
UC Riverside caps the weekend on Saturday night with a 7:00 pm first serve at UC Santa Barbara on ESPN+.
