RIVERSIDE, Calif. – UC Riverside welcomed UC San Diego to the IE for the Highlanders' third conference match of the season. The Highlanders looked to get in the win column coming off losses to CSUN and at UC Santa Barbara.
UCR got things rolling early as
Wes Hastings scored his second goal of the year (18') on assists by
Tarek Hamideh and
Adrian Diaz.
Three minutes later in the 21', the Tritons tied the game on a Sean Ueda goal.
The Highlanders'
Edward Castro had a great look in the 32', but a save by UCSD's keeper, Nolan Premack kept the game knotted at one.
In the 37' UCR broke the tie as
Andrija Radonjic scored his second of the year on another Hamideh assist and
Jona Martinez. For Hamideh it was his second of the game. UCR took a 2-1 lead into the half.
The Highlanders' lead did not last too long once the second half started. A quick goal in the first ten minutes on a header by Evan Wellerstein tied the game at two.
Both teams would have chances as the game progressed but in the 84' the Highlanders'
Ermias Yohannes drew a red card and put UCR a man down for the final minutes of the game.
The Highlanders' defense held firm and UCR escaped with the 2-2 draw.
Next up for UCR is Sacramento State on Saturday, Oct. 11 at 7PM.
