ALBUQUERQUE, N.M. — The Highlanders knocked down 14 three-pointers, but New Mexico's interior scoring proved decisive in an 82–68 setback Tuesday night at The Pit.
Andrew Henderson led the Highlanders with 27 points on 10-for-21 shooting, including 7-for-13 from beyond the arc. Osiris Grady added 14 points and a team-high eight rebounds, while De'Undrae Perteete scored 12 on a perfect 4-for-4 showing from three-point range. Denzel Hines pulled down 10 rebounds and added four points, and Marqui Worthy finished with seven points, three assists, and three rebounds.
UC Riverside (2–1) shot 41.2 percent from the field, 51.9 percent (14-for-27) from long range, and 92.3 percent (12-for-13) from the free-throw line. New Mexico (3–0) countered with 52.4 percent shooting overall, outscoring the Highlanders 52–10 in the paint and holding a 35–31 rebounding edge.
Trailing 36–32 at halftime, the Highlanders opened the second half with a flurry of perimeter shooting. Threes from Henderson, Grady, and Perteete gave UCR a 50–49 advantage at the 12:46 mark before the Lobos responded with a 14–0 run to regain control. The Highlanders hot hands kept the UCR within striking distance, but New Mexico's frontcourt presence down the stretch sealed the outcome.
UC Riverside returns home this Saturday, November 15, for a rematch against North Dakota at 2 p.m. inside SRC Arena.
