Highlanders Fall in Boise, 67-56

BOISE, Idaho – The Highlanders wrapped up their two-game road trip to Idaho taking on Boise State. UC Riverside looked for its first win of the year, but Boise State held on for a 67-56 win.
The Highlanders started the game on a 7-2 run as Bria Shine got things rolling with an opening three. The Broncos eventually took an 8-7 lead after a 6-0 run. Highlander freshman, Taylor Swanson answered hitting back-to-back threes to give UCR a 13-8 lead, but Boise State ended the first on a 6-0 run and led 14-13.
UCR started the scoring in the second as Maria Mejia hit a three to give the Highlanders a 16-14 lead. After a layup by Hannah Wickstrom the Highlanders led by four. UCR guard, Aaliyah Stanton scored six in the second, but UCR trailed at the half, 33-29.
After both teams traded baskets to start the third, the Broncos went on a 10-0 run to push their lead to 49-33. A couple of threes from Kaylani Polk cut the lead to ten and UCR had a bit of momentum heading into the fourth.
UCR started the fourth on a 10-2 run. Wickstrom's layup cut the lead to two. It was the closed the Highlanders had been since they trailed by five early in the third quarter. The Broncos answered with a 9-2 run of their own and took a 60-51 lead. Polk hit a three at the 1:57 mark to cut the deficit to four, but Boise State ended the game on a 7-0 run.
