FULLERTON, Calif. - UC Riverside (7-16, 3-10 Big West) opened its weekend in Orange County on Friday night at Titan Gym with a 3-0 defeat to Cal State Fullerton (8-17, 3-10 Big West).
UCR opened the evening with a .333 clip in set one (13-4-27).
Andrea Brewer kicked off the evening with a pair of kills, and Mia Delahoussaye, who recorded her fourth 10-dig performance of the season, added her own kill. The Highlanders were forced to play from behind in set one and remained close, as Brewer picked up her third kill as the media break drew nearer.
UCR hit .400 (7-1-15) at the first stoppage before regaining the lead with a Titan attack error. The Highlanders went on a 3-0 scoring run out of the timeout, but the short-lived offense came to a pause with the resumption of a back-and-forth affair. UC Riverside called for time at 20-20 before Fullerton claimed set one.
Defense allowed UC Riverside to make up for a slow start in set two. UCR turned a 5-2 deficit into 5-5 and regained its lead at 8-7 with an ace from Delahoussaye. UC Riverside otherwise secured eight of its 12 points off Fullerton errors up to the media break.
UCR jumped out to a 4-1 lead to start set three. Rachel Schwartz put down her first ace of the evening before another Titan attack error extended the early advantage. The Highlanders pushed for a fourth set with a 7-0 run at the end of set three.
UC Riverside concludes its weekend in Orange County on Saturday, November 7, at UC Irvine. First serve from the Bren Events Center is scheduled for 5:00 pm on ESPN+.
