SAN DIEGO, Calif. – Coming off finals week the Highlanders traveled to San Diego for a Sunday matinee with the Toreros. Looking to build off its dominating win over Cal Poly, UCR dropped a close one, 63-56.
The Highlanders found themselves down by six at the end of the first.
Hannah Wickstrom and Seneca Hackely led the way for the Highlanders scoring six and five points respectively.
UC Riverside cut the lead to three at half, trailing 36-33.
Bria Shine's layup with under a minute kept UCR within striking distance.
A tough third quarter for UCR ended with the Highlanders trailing 50-39.
Then in the fourth, the Highlanders tried to get back into it. Six players scored for UCR, but it wasn't enough to overcome the 12-point deficit. Wickstrom led the way in the quarter scoring five of her team high 17-points. Her six boards and three steals also led UCR.
Next up for UC Riverside is a trip to the Bee Hive State on Wednesday to take on Utah. Game time is 6PM.
