SALT LAKE CITY, Utah – The Highlanders took on Utah tonight looking to bounce back from a loss at San Diego. The Utes rolled into the game winners of five straight and put up 91 points in each of their last two. A 15-0 Utah run in the third quarter proved too much to overcome for UCR and the Highlanders fell, 61-52.
Offense was a struggle to find in the first quarter for both teams, as UCR's defense held Utah to five points. Hannah Wickstrom led the way for the Highlanders in the opening quarter with five points.
The offense picked up in the second behind Seneca Hackley's six points. Both teams found rhythm on the offensive side and UCR took a one point lead at half, 24-23.
In the third quarter Utah broke the game open as the Utes went on a 15-0 run over four plus minutes to take a 48-32 lead. The Highlanders found themselves down by 18 at the end of the third, 54-36.
The Highlanders' defense picked up in the fourth holding Utah to seven points. Hackley hit a three to start a 10-0 Highlander run, which cut the lead to ten. Utah built a 20-point lead and it proved too much for the Highlanders' offense.Â
UCR heads home to the SRC Arena to take on Gonzaga on Sunday afternoon at 2PM.
