Highlanders Close Out Big West Bold Week With Win

RIVERSIDE, Calif. – Big West Bold Week concluded tonight with a much needed win topping Cal Poly 63-46. Hannah Wickstrom led the way for UCR scoring a game high 22 points and both Maya Chocano and Makayla Minshall chipped in ten each.
The Highlanders struggled in the first quarter, scoring only six points. A start similar to the UC Irvine game on Thursday night.
However, in the second quarter offense found its groove as UCR scored 19 points. Chocano scored five in the frame and Bria Shine scored four of her six total points in the second.
In the third quarter the Highlanders' defense held the Mustangs to single digits again, surrendering only nine points. Wickstrom put in eight points to lead UCR in the third.
The fourth quarter for the Highlanders' had been their best offensively all year. Coming into tonight's game UCR outscored their opponents 128-112 and tonight the fourth was their most productive quarter putting up 23.
The Highlanders forced 24 turnovers tonight and scored 22 points off them. They also outscored the Mustangs in the pain 24-12.
UCR is off until next Sunday when they travel to San Diego to take on the Torreros. Game time is 2PM.
