UC Riverside Splits Doubleheader at Stanford Tournament

STANFORD, Calif. – The UC Riverside Highlanders wrapped up tournament play on Saturday, earning a strong 6-1 victory over UC Davis in the morning before falling 9-1 to No. 7 Stanford in the afternoon.

GAME ONE: UC Riverside 6, UC Davis 1
The UC Riverside Highlanders used a dominant sixth inning to break open a tight game, scoring five runs to take down UC Davis in a 6-1 win at Stanford Stadium.

The Highlanders struck first in the opening inning when Kamryn Davis tripled to left field and later scored on a double by Haley Saole.

UC Davis tied the game in the fifth on a sacrifice fly, but UC Riverside responded in a big way in the bottom of the sixth. The Highlanders capitalized on defensive miscues and timely hitting, highlighted by Davis' bases-clearing triple that brought in three runs.

Maddie Heinlin (1-1) was stellar in the circle, tossing a complete game while allowing just one run on six hits and striking out six. She worked efficiently, throwing 86 pitches and limiting the Aggies to just three baserunners over the final two innings.

Davis led the offense, going 2-for-4 with two triples and three RBIs. Jackie Alday and Saole each doubled, while Allysa Alano added a stolen base.

GAME TWO: No. 7 Stanford 9, UC Riverside 1 (5 innings)

UC Riverside faced a tough challenge against Stanford, falling 9-1 in a five-inning contest.

The Highlanders kept it close early, tying the game in the third inning when Isabel McElroy reached on an error and later scored on a bunt single by Kamryn Davis.

Stanford responded immediately, reclaiming the lead in the bottom of the third before breaking the game open with a five-run fourth inning, including a two-run homer. The Cardinals added two more in the fifth to seal the run-rule victory.

Offensively, UC Riverside managed just three hits, with Davis, Saole, and Rebeca Cabezas each collecting one. Cabezas' double in the fourth was the Highlanders' lone extra-base hit.
UC Riverside will look to bounce back tomorrow as they close the Cardinal Classic against Portland State with first pitch set for 11am.
