UCR Earns First Win of the Year

RIVERSIDE, Calif.- UCR's women's tennis team took on Concordia University Irvine this afternoon on the SRC Tennis Courts. The Highlanders earned their first win of the year topping the Golden Eagles, 4-3. This afternoon was the first all-time meeting between the two schools.

HOW IT HAPPENED
  • The Highlanders took the doubles point to get things started. Kei Kato and Ramey Yu won their match 6-1 and Chloe Vu and Sam Condevillamar took their doubles match 6-2. This was the first doubles point of the season for UCR.
  • In singles competition Yu won a three set battle: 6-3, 3-6, 6-4. For Yu this was her third straight singles match victory and all three wins were in three sets.
  • Crystal Kim dropped her first set 1-6, but came back and took the final two sets 6-3 and 6-4.
  • Vu had a battle in her three set match, winning 6-7, 7-6, 6-3.

COACH JOHANSSON ON THE WIN
  • "The ladies show some grittiness and determination today! Down 3-1 and three matches going in third set. I have been doing this for a long time and it does not happen very often that a team win three three sets matches when down 3-1. Good win for our group and hopefully we can build on this. Also want to mention freshman Ramey Yu - played five matches for us at 1 and 2 spot ( 4-0 ) all in three sets and one unfinished in third sets!!"

UP NEXT
  • The Highlanders return to the SRC on February 5th at 2:00 p.m. as they take on Hope International.
