UC Riverside Splits Doubleheader at Stacy Winsberg Memorial Tournament

LOS ANGELES, Calif. – The UC Riverside Highlanders wrapped up a doubleheader on Saturday at Easton Stadium, falling to No. 5 UCLA in the morning before rallying for a victory over Lehigh in the afternoon.

GAME ONE: No. 5 UCLA 10, UC Riverside 2

UC Riverside put up a fight against fifth-ranked UCLA, but the Bruins' offense proved too strong in a 10-2 setback.

The Highlanders (2-3) cut into an early deficit with a two-run third inning after Jackie Alday and Trendee Kahunahana reached base before Haley Saole drove them in with a two RBI single. However, UCLA (5-0) responded with timely hitting, including a two-run homer by Jordan Woolery in the first inning, and capitalized on UC Riverside's three errors.

Maddie Heinlin (0-2) battled in the circle, tossing 5.2 innings while allowing 15 hits and 10 runs (nine earned) with two strikeouts. Offensively, Alday led UC Riverside with two hits, while Saole finished with a pair of RBIs.

Addisen Fisher (2-0) picked up the win for the Bruins, striking out seven in four innings. Jada Cecil earned the save with two hitless innings of relief.

GAME TWO: UC Riverside 7, Lehigh 4

The Highlanders bounced back in the second game of the day, erupting for seven runs in the fifth inning to take down Lehigh, 7-4.

UC Riverside (3-3) broke a scoreless tie with a massive rally, highlighted by a grand slam from Saole to clear the bases. The Highlanders strung together 11 hits, with Kamryn Davis leading the way with a 3-for-4 performance. Isabel McElroy and Rebeca Cabezas each added RBI doubles in the fifth to help secure the lead.

Reagan Everett (3-0) continued her strong start to the season, pitching 4.1 innings and allowing three runs on seven hits while striking out two. Brooke Perez closed out the final 2.2 innings, giving up one unearned run to seal the win.

Lehigh (1-4) made a push in the later innings, but UC Riverside's pitching and defense held firm to secure the victory.
