UNLV Downs UCR in Vegas

LAS VEGAS, Nev. – With the rain in the IE, it was the perfect time for a road trip to UNLV. They Highlanders had an afternoon game against the Rebels before coming back home and playing San Francisco tomorrow. For UNLV and UCR this was the 41st time these two teams have met. The Highlanders are now 22-19 against UNLV and they dropped their fifth straight.

UNLV got the scoring started in the bottom of the second when the first three batters of the inning all reached base. A single, double and single put two on the board for UNLV. They pushed another run across on a ground out and had a 3-0 lead.

UCR got two back in the top of the third. Tyler Gordon reached based on an error by the second baseman and that allowed Tyson Reis to score. Robert Pitts, who got on base again, scored on the same play by an another UNLV error. For Pitts, this would mark the 17th game to reach base.

It was the bottom half of the fourth hat the game changed and UNLV seized control. They put up a five spot on UCR on a walk, two singles and double.

The Highlanders would tack on another run when Landon Nunes hit his second homer of the season. Nunes is now tied with Jayden Lopez with the team lead in homers (2).
The Rebels pushed two more runs across in the bottom of the fifth and UCR added one in the eighth to end the game 10-4.

Pitts continued his offensive production going 2-5 and Griffin Harrison also collected a pair of hits.
