Kahunahana Hits Walk Off in 11-Inning Thriller to Take Win Over CSUN

RIVERSIDE, Calif. – In an epic conclusion to the Big West weekend series, the UC Riverside Highlanders walked off CSUN in the bottom of the 11th inning on Trendee Kahunahana's solo home run, earning a 3-2 victory on Saturday afternoon at Amy S. Harrison Field.

The Highlanders matched CSUN with eight hits apiece and delivered in the clutch to claim the series finale.

After falling behind 2-0 through three innings, UC Riverside began to chip away. In the bottom of the third, Eta Lauti launched her second home run of the season, a solo shot down the left field line to cut the deficit in half.

The Highlanders tied the game in the sixth. Lauti was hit by a pitch to lead off the inning, advanced to second on a groundout by Rebeca Cabezas, and came around to score on an RBI single from Haley Saole.

UC Riverside threatened multiple times in extra innings — including loading the bases in the seventh and putting the winning run aboard in the ninth — but finally broke through in the bottom of the 11th when Kahunahana sent a 0-1 pitch over the left field wall, igniting a celebration at home plate.

Jackie Alday finished 2-for-3 with a walk, a hit-by-pitch, and a stolen base, while Saole drove in a run. Cabezas and Allysa Alano added base hits as well.

Brooke Perez (3-5) earned the win in relief, tossing eight shutout innings while allowing just four hits and one walk, striking out three.

The Highlanders open their series against Hawai'i on Friday, April 4th with first pitch set for 9pm in Manoa, Hawai'i.
