IRVINE, Calif. - The Anteaters completed the three game sweep today at UC Irvine topping the Highlanders, 7-4. Now, the Highlanders have a couple of days to regroup before heading out on the road to take on Cal State Bakersfield next weekend.
UCR got on the board first when
Jayden Lopez hit a two-run homer to center, scoring Manaoh Chapman and giving the Highlanders a 2-0 lead.Â
In the bottom of the second the Anteaters scored four on two bases loaded singles and took a 4-2 lead.Â
However, the Highlanders would come right back in the top of the fifth as Chapman doubled down the left field line scoring
Jacob Badawi and
Landon Nunes, tying up the game 4-4.Â
The lead was short-lived as UCI's Colin Yeaman homered left field giving the Anteaters the lead back at 5-4. They would not give up the lead. UCI added runs in the sixth and the seventh giving it the lead, 7-4, which is how it ended.
Brooks Ryder got the win for UCI and his record improved to 3-1 and Josh Martinez took the loss falling to 1-1 on the year.Â
Up next the Highlanders take on Cal State Bakersfield this weekend on the road in another conference series. Game one will be Friday, April 4 at 6:30 p.m.
