Gauchos Take Game One

RIVERSIDE, Calif. -  The Highlanders returned home tonight for a three game set with UC Santa Barbara. The Gauchos entered the game with a 21-10 record, but a 7-8 conference record. The Highlanders dropped two of three from the Roadrunners last weekend in Bakersfield, and their game two shut out victory was the first conference win since the Hawai'i series in early March.

UCR sent Josh Martinez to the hill for the game one start and squared off against the Gauchos' Tyler Bremner.

UCSB got things started right away in the top of the first as they scored three times on a pair of doubles.

The Gauchos pushed another run across in the top of the second and took a 4-0 lead.

In the bottom of the second, UCR scored four times to tie the game. David Gibbs got things started with a RBI single to center scoring Manoah Chapman. David Whittle then followed with another single, cutting the lead in half, 4-2.

Robert Pitts singled in the third run in and Landon Nunes took one for the team and the fourth run scored.

UC Santa Barbara took the lead in the top of the third and scored again in the fourth and the fifth. They were kept scoreless in the sixth, but in the seventh UC Santa Barbara scored two more times making it 13-4.

No runs were scored for either team after the top of the seventh and the Gauchos took game one.
