SACRAMENTO, Calif. - UCR looked to salvage the series finale with the Hornets, but ultimately the Highlanders lost, 9-6.
The Highlanders struck first in grand fashion.
Tyson Reis clubbed his first college homer and it was a grand slam. That put UCR on top early, 4-0. This was the second straight game that UCR scored in the first inning, as they jumped out to a 1-0 lead last night.
However, the lead did not last. Sac State put a four spot of their own on the board and then took the lead in the second when they plated three.
UC Riverside's starter,
Matthew O'Brien could not get out of the first inning and was saddled with his fifth loss on the year. The Highlanders used seven pitchers on the afternoon, with
Chris Lozano throwing three innings. He gave up two runs on a pair of hits, but had three strikeouts.
Trailing, 9-4, in the top of the sixth,
Jacob Badawi came up with a two RBI double to right getting the Highlanders closer at, 9-6. Unfortunately, that was all the offense they mustered and were swept.
Next up for UC Riverside is Cal Baptist tomorrow night at 6:30 p.m. That game can be found on ESPN+.
