RIVERSIDE, Calif. - UCR honored four seniors prior to the game:
Jacob Badawi,
Sean McLeod,
Andrew Rivas,
Jayden Lopez and
James Appleford. Then a pitchers duel followed.
Getting the start for UCR was
Joshua Martinez. For the lefty it was his 24th appearance on the year and his eighth start. He threw well, going 2.1 innings and giving up only one hit. He gave way to
Nolan Milliman, who went 1.2 innings giving up nothing and struck out three.
Joshua Torres followed with only one inning and kept the Highlanders' shut out alive.Â
UCR's closer
Matt Hudson came in and gave up the only two runs of the game and took the loss. In his first inning pitched though he got out of a tight jam with a double play and a pick off. In the seventh inning Long Beach State plated their first run on a sacrifice fly to right. Then in the top of the eighth a Dirtbags' homer to right made it 2-0.
In total UCR had five hits and had some chances late, but could not capitalize on those opportunities.
The Highlanders were looking to take one game off of Long Beach State this afternoon at The Plex, but dropped a heart breaker 2-0. For UCR it was the third time this year they had been shut out.
Next up for UCR is Cal Poly SLO in the final series of the year. The Highlanders and the Mustangs open on Thursday at 6PM from Baggett Stadium.
