DAVIS, Calif. – UC Riverside capped the weekend with a strong all-around performance, using a 10-hit attack and a dominant complete-game shutout from
Maddie Heinlin to defeat UC Davis 1-0 on Saturday afternoon at La Rue Field.
The Highlanders (21-29, 12-15 Big West) scored the game's only run in the fifth inning.
Kamryn Davis bunted for a single to open the frame, advanced to second on a passed ball, moved to third on a sacrifice bunt by
Rebeca Cabezas, and scored on a sacrifice fly to left field by
Trendee Kahunahana to put UCR ahead 1-0.
UC Riverside continued to apply pressure, collecting 10 hits on the day. Cabezas (2-for-3),
Jackie Alday (2-for-3, double), and Allysa Alano (2-for-3) each posted multi-hit efforts, while
Leilani Juan,
Mariana Palazuelos, Lauti Eta, and Davis all added hits to the offensive total.
In the circle, Heinlin (13-14) was outstanding, allowing just one hit over seven shutout innings while striking out four and walking three on 99 pitches. Heinlin faced just four batters over the minimum and retired UC Davis in order in four separate innings to earn her third shutout of the season.
The Highlanders close their 2025 season on a high note with the series win against UC Davis, and an improved record on the previous season.
