RIVERSIDE, Calif. – The Highlanders welcomed the Northwestern Wildcats to the UCR Soccer Stadium for a morning tilt. UCR entered the game on a two game streak with clean sheets over UNLV and San Diego State. Northwestern came in dropping its first Big 10 Conference match at UCLA, 1-0. This was the second all-time meeting between these two schools, with Northwestern winning the first meeting 2-1 back in 2023.
The Highlanders struck first as
Andrija Radonjic scored unassisted in the 7' of the game. It was the second game that the Highlanders scored first and in the first half.
UCR struck again in the 22' as
Edward Castro found the back of the net. For Castro it was his second goal in as many games and second on the season.
Jackson D'Alessandro got the assist on the goal, which was his first of the year.
Early in the second, Northwestern struck first on a beautiful goal by Tyler Glassberg on a header. Wildcats Andrew Johnson and Italo Addimandi tallied the helpers.
Northwestern tied up the game on another header, this time by Nigel Prince. In the second half, Northwestern seized momentum and had control of the half.
In the 88' Northwestern was on the attack and when
Andrew Hermosillo went to make a play on the ball, the ref called a foul on the keeper and awarded Northwestern a PK. Then Joe Suchecki gave the Wildcats a late 3-2 lead.
