RIVERSIDE, Calif. – UC Riverside opened its Big West schedule on Tuesday evening at the Johnson Family Practice Center with a 3-0 defeat to UC Davis. 

UCR outhit the Aggies .227 to .111 in the early going while clawing back from a slow start to take a 12-11 lead. UC Davis was forced to call time after Izzy Jeffery and Mia Delahoussaye combined for the block. 

A Highlander timeout couldn't stop UC Davis from making a run, as the Aggies pushed set one to a 19-14 lead. Davis completed the 25-19 set one win after Delahoussaye and Jessica Dean combined for 10 of the Highlanders' 18 digs. 

UCR stormed out to an 8-4 lead in set two after kills from Delahoussaye, Sophia Ewalefo, and Layla Hooks. Rachel Schwartz assisted on the three kills, and UC Davis called time after UCR extended the advantage to 10-5. UC Riverside forced five Aggie service errors and denied a pair of set points before Davis took the set. 

The Highlanders experienced a slow start to set three, but regained service and momentum on an 11th Davis service error before the Aggies closed out the match. 

The Highlanders return to action on Friday, September 26 at Hawai'i. First serve against the Rainbow Wahine is scheduled 10:00 pm PT on Spectrum OC16 and ESPN+.
