ST. GEORGE, Utah – UC Riverside wrapped up its Utah trip on Saturday at Burns Arena with a 3-1 defeat to Weber State. 

The Highlanders struggled to find their footing in a 25-8 set one defeat, but took their first lead since early in set one after the second of three consecutive kills from Sophia Ewalefo in set two. 

Ewalefo's hitting, though, took a back seat to the defense. In addition to a new look lineup moving the needle, UC Riverside held Weber State to just .125 hitting in set two while claiming 12 of its 20 points on Wildcat attacking errors. 

UCR busted out a 5-1 scoring run in set three to take an 11-8 lead while enjoying its best attacking frame of the day. A few more attack errors pushed the run to 7-1 before a steady pace and four late kills from Andrea Brewer guided the Highlanders to a 25-20 set victory. 

Brewer concluded her day with a career-high 12 kills, but UCR was overpowered in set four.

UC Riverside resumes the non-conference slate on Friday, September 12, against San Diego State in Long Beach. First serve is scheduled for 4:00 pm from the Walter Pyramid at Long Beach State.
