RIVERSIDE, Calif. – UC Riverside hosted UC Davis this afternoon at the SRC Arena looking to bounce back after a tough loss at UC Irvine on Thursday night. The Highlanders were down by as many as 30 points three times today and rallied but it was too much to overcome and lost, 81-68.
The Aggies started hot, scoring the game's first ten points. The run ended when former Aggie,
Bria Shine, hit a layup for the Highlanders and cut the lead to eight. UC Davis ended the quarter on a 10-2 and held a 26-10 lead.
UC Davis' offense remained hot in the second as they put up 24 points and led 50-26 lead.
Taylor Swanson scored the first five points of the second for the Highlanders. However, UC Davis' offense kept rolling.
The Aggies at one point held a 71-44 lead, but in the fourth UCR's play picked up and as they outscored UC Davis 26-10.
The conference leading scorer,
Hannah Wickstrom, led all scorers with 26 points on 9-16 shooting. She entered the game averaging 22 ppg., and in the top 10 in the NCAA in scoring.
Seneca Hackley was the only other Highlander in double figures as she scored 13 points including hitting two threes. It wasn't enough to overcome a balanced UCD attack that saw four players in double figures with Megan Norris and Avery Sussex scoring 21 each.
The Highlanders travel to Long Beach State on Thursday. They look to take the season series from the Beach with tipoff at 6PM.
