OREM, Utah - The Highlanders looked to build off their series opening win over Utah Valley in game one of a double header this afternoon. The Wolverines downed the Highlanders 11-3.
It got off to a rocky start for UC Riverside as Utah Valley scored five times in the bottom of the first. The big blow was a two run homer from Brody Block off of Halen Guerrero.Â
Guerrero went three innings giving up seven runs on six hits. His record dropped to 1-2.Â
In the Highlanders' second,
Manoah Chapman hit his first homer of the year and UCR got on the board. He would add a second RBI in the sixth on a single scoring
Ty Walton. The third run game on an RBI single to center by
Isaiah Hernandez scoring Walton.
In the second game of the double header the Highlanders fell, 7-2.Â
UC Riverside started
Matthew O'Brien in the afternoon game. He went six innings giving up five runs on five hits. His record dropped to 0-2.Â
The Highlanders scored the first run of the game in the third inning on a
Lucas Bonham sacrifice fly scoring
Robert Pitts. However, that lead did not last too long as in the bottom of the fourth the Wolverines got two runs. The first came on a home run by Kaden Carpenter and that was followed up later in the inning by an RBI ground out by Brody Block.Â
Carpenter homered again for Utah Valley in the fifth, a three run shot, making it 5-1 Utah Valley. Chipper Beck followed with a homer a couple of innings later and made it 7-1.
In the top of the ninth,
Jaxon Byrd slugged his second homer of the year to make it 7-2. But the Highlanders could not get any more runs and dropped their second straight.Â
