LAS VEGAS, Nev. - UNLV outlasted UCR in an 11-10 victory on Tuesday afternoon.
Adrian Blanchet got the start for the Highlanders and pitched two innings, gave up four runs and took the loss.
The Highlanders got on the board in the first inning putting up a two spot on RBI double by
Lucas Bonham, who would then score on a wild pitch. Taking a 2-0 lead to the bottom of the first, UNLV was able to push one across on a triple off the center field wall.
Trailing 2-1 in the bottom of the second the Rebels scored three times to take a 4-1 lead. The big hit in the inning was a two RBI double by UNLV's Reggie Bussey. Then the Rebels scored four times in the bottom third with the big hit coming from Gunnar Myro and three RBI triple.Â
Leading 8-2 in the bottom of the the sixth, UNLV scored three more times to take an 11-2 lead. Two wild pitches led to two of the three runs and a nine run UNLV lead.
In the top of the seventh, the Highlanders started to get back into it.
Tyler Gordon led the inning off getting hit by a pitch and
Isaiah Hernandez followed with a pinch hit single to center. Then with two outs and two on,Â
Robert Pitts blasted a pinch hit grand slam making it 11-6, UNLV.Â
In the top of the eighth the Highlanders scored two more times and trailed by three heading into the final frame.
Jaxon Byrd led things off with a double and Bonham followed with a single.
Andrew Rivas reached base on a throwing error that allowed two runs to score and the Highlanders trailed by one. With two outs Hernandez was hit by a pitch but the game ended on an
Evan Hall strikeout.
Next up for UCR is a three game home set against San Francisco. First pitch on Friday, March 13 is at 2PM.
