RIVERSIDE, Calif. — UC Riverside battled California Baptist in Tuesday night's Crosstown Showdown but fell, 0-3, at John C. Funk Stadium.
The Highlanders (5-26) were limited to three hits in the contest, with Aubrey Marx, Leilani Juan and Jackie Alday each recording a hit. Rebeca Cabezas also reached after being hit by a pitch in the third inning, while Trendee Kahunahana drew a walk in the fifth.
Bree Barner kept UC Riverside in the game as she pitched the entire match up, allowing three runs on six hits over 6.0 innings while striking out three.
California Baptist scored two runs in the third inning and added another in the fifth to take the win.
UC Riverside threatened in the sixth when Alday and Marx singled with two outs, and again in the seventh when Juan led off with a single, but the Highlanders were unable to break through.
