Curtis Smith returned to his alma mater as an assistant coach prior to the 2015 season, helping round out Head Coach Troy Percival's staff.
Smith starred for the Highlanders from 1981-84, playing for UC Riverside's second national champion baseball team during his freshman year. He was a member of the 1982 national championship squad that was inducted into the UC Riverside Athletics Hall of Fame in 2018.Â
His name still dots the Highlanders record books as he remains among the program leaders in career runs scored, hits, total bases, walks, steals and triples. His 21 triples, 64 stolen bases, 173 runs and 273 hits still rank near the top of the CCAA record books.Â
