Margarito Cortes Jr. joined UC Riverside as the Assistant Men’s and Women’s Golf coach in December of 2025.Â
Cortes, a veteran golf professional of over 20 years, has enjoyed a successful career in the Southern California golf industry as the head golf pro at Canyon Crest Golf Club and Jurupa Hills Golf Club.Â
Cortes coached Ramona High School to three consecutive River Valley League boys titles, as well as California Baptist to the 2011 NAIA national title.Â
He enjoyed a decorated playing career also, winning the 2012 SCPGA Inland Empire 3Play, 2013 and 2015 SCPGA Super-Pro Manager, and 2015 Inland Empire Assistant Pro. He also placed second at the 2012 SCPGA Golf Pro.Â
Cortes earned his bachelor’s degree in Marketing in 2008 from Cal State San Bernardino, where he was a three-time Dean’s List honoree.Â
