Former college softball standout and decorated assistant coach Terry Schweikert joined the UC Riverside softball staff on October 19, 2016 after serving as the Director of Softball Operations at Texas A&M.
Schweikert has proven to be an essential part of Highlanders' softball program, serving as an assistant coach, first base coach and an overseer of operations. In just her second year on the Highlander coaching staff, Schweikert helped lead the program to its first ever postseason appearance where the team won a 2018 NISC Regional Championship and was the runner-up in the NISC Championship.
At Texas A&M, Schweikert was responsible for the day-to-day operations of the Aggies' softball program, including administrative duties involving team travel, budgeting, marketing and promotions, on-campus recruiting and alumni relations. Prior to A&M, Schweikert was the Director of Teamsmith, a travel softball organization. At Teamsmith, Schweikert oversaw eight youth softball teams in the 10U-18U divisions.
Before joining Teamsmith in September of 2005, Schweikert was co-head coach of the New York Juggernaut professional softball team for one year. She was an assistant coach at Cal State Fullerton from August 2001 to May 2005 after a three-year stint as an assistant with the University of Nebraska starting in 1998.
Under Schweikert's tutelage, the Titans produced two first-team All-Americans, three pro players and one Olympian in former UCR pitching coach Jodie Cox, while winning two Big West Championships and making a run to the NCAA Sweet 16. Schweikert was also a part of the 2002 and 2003 NFCA Regional Coaching Staffs of the Year.
At Nebraska, Schweikert was both the middle infield coach and the outfield coach, and took responsibility for the Cornhuskers' short game and base running. The Huskers were the 2001 Big 12 Champions and the 2000 Big 12 Tournament Champions with Schweikert in the dugout, and appeared in two Sweet 16 rounds. The UNL coaches were named the 2001 NFCA Regional Coaching Staff of the Year.
Schweikert's NCAA coaching career began at her alma mater in August 1996. The Mizzou alum coached the Tigers' first first-team All-American and led the team to both the 1997 Big 12 regular season and tournament championships. Schweikert and her peers were selected as the 1997 Big 12 Staff of the Year and the 1997 Midwest Region Staff of the Year.
After graduating from MU in 1985 with a Bachelor of Science in Physical Education, Schweikert coached at Parkview High School in Springfield, Mo. (1985-91) and at Hopkins High School in Hopkins, Minn. (1991-96).
A two-year captain at Mizzou, Schweikert garnered All-Midwest Region honors and was the 1983-84 Missouri Softball Player of the Year. After earning Rookie of the Year status in 1981-82, she led the Tigers to the 1983 Women's College World Series.
Schweikert was a 1990 American Softball Association (ASA) first-team All-American and was a member of the 1990 ASA Women's Major Slow Pitch Championship team. She is a member of the National Fastpitch Coaches' Association (NFCA).
