DeHart received his bachelor of arts degree in ethnic studies from UC Santa Barbara where he was a four-year player for the Gauchos from 1986-1990.
In 1986-87, he was named Big West Freshman of the Year, and the following three seasons he was named All-Big West Conference.
As a senior in 1989-90, he earned All-American honors as he helped lead the Gauchos to the second round of the NCAA Tournament. He was the leading scorer with 23 points in their second round game against Big Ten champion Michigan State.
UCSB advanced to the postseason in each of DeHart's final three seasons, going to the 1988 NCAA Tournament, the 1989 National Invitation Tournament and the 1990 NCAA Tournament.
On January 23, 2010, DeHart was introduced as the second of five “Legends of the Dome” at UC Santa Barbara. He scored 1,687 career points, a record that stood for 18 years, and still ranks second in Gauchos history. He ranks among the school’s top-10 in 10 statistical categories.
DeHart continued his basketball career playing professionally overseas in New Zealand and Europe for nine years. He also signed with the Boston Celtics as a free agent upon graduation.
For the last 15 years, DeHart has coached and directed the Santa Barbara Blazers basketball program for youth boys and girls. The Blazers is part of a community health program empowering individuals to promote and practice the healthy lifestyles and behaviors necessary to build positive, proactive, healthy communities through athletics and academics.
He was an assistant with the California Storm, an AAU program sponsored by Nike, and served as the director of development, regional giving, for San Diego and Orange Counties at his alma mater for the last four years.
In his spare time, DeHart enjoys playing golf, listening to music, and writing.
