- Title:
- Recruiting Coordinator/Assistant Women's Basketball Coach
- Email:
Chyanne Butler joined the Highlanders’ staff for the 2026-27 season.
A former top recruit in the 2014 class, Butler has built a coaching career rooted in resilience, leadership, and the development of young women both on and off the basketball court.
A standout point guard, Butler starred at both St. Bernard High School and JSerra Catholic High School, winning a CIF Championship as a freshman before finishing her high school career with more than 1,500 career points. She continued her playing career at the University of Southern California before transferring to the University of Houston.
Although her collegiate career was challenged by multiple knee injuries, Butler transformed adversity into purpose. Through injury and recovery, she developed a coaching philosophy centered on mindset, emotional intelligence, confidence, and leadership—believing that the strongest athletes are developed as much mentally as they are physically.
In 2022, Butler began her coaching career at Pacifica Christian High School, leading the program to a CIF Championship in her first season. She later returned to JSerra Catholic High School, where she helped engineer one of Southern California’s most remarkable turnarounds. After a winless season, Butler guided the Lions to a CIF Southern Section Championship the following year and earned 2024 Coach of the Year honors.
Beyond the high school and collegiate sidelines, Butler impacted the game through elite player development. She has served as an on-court trainer for Jordan Brand, the Kyrie Irving Basketball Camp, and the Mamba & Mambacita Sports Foundation, while also coaching in the Ballislife Girls All-American Game.
Butler then joined the Prairie View A&M women’s basketball staff, where she gained Division I experience in recruiting, player development, scouting, leadership development, and creative media. Her ability to connect with student-athletes while helping build a program both on and off the floor quickly established her as one of the profession’s rising young coaches.
Known for her passion for player development, Butler believes in coaching the whole person—not just the athlete. She emphasizes confidence, accountability, discipline, and emotional resilience while helping players maximize their potential both on and off the court.
Butler believes basketball is one of life’s greatest classrooms, and her mission is to help young women become confident leaders, resilient competitors, and impactful people by challenging them to grow mentally, emotionally, and athletically every day.
