
Highlanders Play to a Draw at Tulsa

TULSA, Okla. – After dropping the season opener at Oral Roberts, the Highlanders looked to bounce back at Tulsa. This was the first ever meeting between the two schools and it ended in a 1-1 draw.
The Highlanders struck first as Matti Richter recorded the first goal of the season and in his career for UC Riverside. It came in the 6' on the first shot of the match.
Tarek Hamideh and Ryan Guerra both added shots in the first, but neither were on target.
The match got spirited in the 18' when Highlanders' goalkeeper Giancarlo Sagredo was shown a yellow and Adrian Diaz and Tulsa's Peleg Armendariz were shown a red. Both teams would be a man down for the rest of the way.
In the 36' UC Riverside had a great look as Eric Martinez put one on target, but Carlio Saylon made the save.
Tulsa had a scoring chance late in the half when Sagredo made a great save on a shot by Joses Chukwu.
The Highlanders took a 1-0 lead into the break. Tulsa ended up outshooting UCR 6-4, but both teams recorded two shots on goal.
In the second the Golden Hurricane offense recorded the first three shots of the second, one that was on target and Sagredo making his third save of the match.
Sagredo's fourth save came in the 68' when Tulsa's Christian Mezas put one on target.
In the 79' Tulsa was awarded a penalty kick on a foul by Sagredo and Luc Achermann-Stanfield tied the match, 1-1.
Tulsa's next chance came in the 88' but Jared Aguilar's shot missed right of the target.
Next up for UC Riverside is a trip to Phoenix to take on #21 Grand Canyon. That match is on Friday, August 28 at 7PM.
