
Women's Basketball Falls to #22 Arizona State

Highlanders now 1-2 on the season against top-25 oponents
(Tempe, AZ) - Coming off their first win over a ranked opponent in NCAA Division I history last week, the UC Riverside women's basketball team (3-5) fell 68-45 at the hands of another ranked opponent, #22 Arizona State (7-2), on Sunday evening at the Wells Fargo Arena in Tempe, AZ. UCR is now 1-2 on the season against top-25 ranked opponents.
The Highlanders stayed close to the Sun Devils in the first half as there were four lead changes and six tie scores within the first fifteen minutes of play. UCR took their first lead of the game nine minutes in as senior Kemie Nkele (San Diego, CA) connected on a layup to put the Highlanders up 9-7. UCR would head in to the locker room down only 24-20.
However, the Sun Devils exploded in the second half, outscoring the Highlanders by 19 points while shooting 52.9 percent from the field. Nkele led UCR with 13 points while Tainoisouti Lott added 7 points and a team-high four boards.
The Highlanders continue to play Pac-10 opponents as they journey to Tucson, AZ to take on the Arizona Wildcats on Wednesday, Dec. 17 at 6:00 pm.
