Tainoisouti Lott Records Her First Double-Double of the Season

(San Diego, CA) - San Diego State's Jene Morris hit a jumper at the buzzer to give the Aztecs (5-3) a 54-52 win over the UC Riverside Women's Basketball Team (2-4) at Cox Arena in San Diego on Thursday evening. Tonight's loss is the second game this season in which the Highlanders have lost at the buzzer.
Down by two, 52-50, with less than 30 seconds to go, UCR's Seyram Gbewonyo (Sylmar, CA) drove through the lane and connected on a layup with 21 seconds to go that tied the game at 52 apiece. After two Highlander fouls to disrupt the Aztec offense, Morris hit the jumper at the buzzer to give SDSU the win.
Kemie Nkele paced the Highlanders with 17 points on 7-of-14 shooting from the field while Ronéy Friend (Los Angeles, CA) added 12. Tainoisouti Lott (Moreno Valley, CA) recorded her first double-double of the season with 10 points and a career-high 15 boards. T
he Aztecs got on the board first with a three-pointer by Morris, one of five tres on the night for the SDSU guard. Gbewonyo then countered with a three of her own at the 18:58 mark to tie the game at three apiece. UCR then traded baskets with San Diego State until they opened up a small lead towards the end of the half. A Lott layup with just over two minutes remaining put the Highlanders up by eight, 27-19, as they went into the locker room with a 29-21 lead.
