Box Score - Purdue 65, UC Riverside 53
The UC Riverside Women's Basketball Team hung with Purdue for much of the game Friday evening leading 45-43 following Amber Cox's (pictured) three-point play with 7:29 to go. However, the Boilermakers went on a 17-1 run over the next 5:27 to pick up the 65-53 win.
Neither team led by more than six in the first as Purdue scored 12 of the final 16 points in the half to take a four-point lead into the locker room. Rhaya Neabors scored 10 points in the initial 20 minutes on four of seven shooting from the field while Cox and Marissa Rivera chipped in with seven points each on identical three of five performances. Those were the only members of the Highlanders to score on field goal attempts, however, as the remainder of the team was 0 for 7 from the field.
Cox kept the Highlanders in the game offensively in the second scoring 13 of her game-high 20 points after the break. However, the remainder of the squad connected on just four of 18 shots after halftime. Her 19th point of the day came on the three-point play that gave UC Riverside its last lead of the night, 45-43.
A Sam Ostarello layup began the Boilermakers run, as UCR missed six consecutive shots. Five different Purdue players scored during the run effectively putting an end to the game.
Rhaya Neabors added 15 points on the night for UC Riverside as she and Cox combined to score two-thirds of the Highlanders points. In contrast, the Boilermakers had six players score between eight and 12 points led by Fahkara Malone's 12. That balance was aided by a 19-2 advantage for Purdue in bench scoring. the Boilermakers also used their size advantage to outboard the Highlanders 40-29 led by Ostarello's game-high 12.
Next up for the Highlanders is a Friday, December 4 home game with San Diego State. Tip is scheduled for 5 pm PT.
