
Highlanders Win Streak Reaches Seven Straight With 74-55 Win at Pacific

Stockton, CA -- The UC Riverside women’s basketball team kept their seven-game winning streak alive as they defeated the Pacific Tigers 74-55 in Big West Conference action on Thursday evening at the Alex G. Spanos Center in Stockton, CA. The Highlanders improve to 12-9 on the year and 8-1 in conference play.
UCR entered the second half with a 10-point lead, but the Tigers (11-10, 5-4) chipped away at that lead and tied the game at 42 apiece at the 12:06 mark on a fastbreak by Pacific’s Amber Simmons. UCR, however, battled back and outscored Pacific 22-13 to close out the game as they handed Pacific their first home loss of the season.
Down 12-6 in the first, UCR used a 23-6 run over a seven-minute span to take a 29-18 lead at the 5:13 mark. During this rally the Highlanders connected on five of their eight first-half three-pointers as they went into the locker rooms with a 33-23 lead.
Game Notes
With her season-high 21 points, senior Seyram Gbewonyo moved up to fifth place all-time on the Highlanders career scoring list. She is now 66 points from fourth place and should claim that spot by season’s end. Gbewonyo also moved up to first place all-time on the Highlanders career minutes list.
The Highlanders handed Pacific their first loss at home all season.
The Highlanders have now won seven straight games and nine of their last ten.
UCR's 74 points on the night is a season-high.
Kemie Nkele recorded her 1,000 rebound in tonight's game.
