Box Score - Cal State Northridge 3, UC Riverside 1
Northridge, CA - For the third time in as many matches, the UC Riverside volleyball team dropped a 3-1 decision in Big West Conference play to drop its record to 2-17 overall and 0-5 in league play.
The Highlanders were looking to snap a two-game losing skid as they faced Cal State Northridge on Saturday night, and after losing the first set 25-21 they came back to win set two 26-24. The Matadors (8-12, 1-4) went on for the victory with convincing 25-15 and 25-18 wins in the third and fourth set.
Down 17-16 in the first set, the Highlanders scored three straight to take a 19-17 advantage off a Bianca Endersby kill and two Matador errors. Northridge made a run and retook the lead 20-19 as they outscored UCR 8-2 to close out the set for a 25-21 win.
The Highlanders were leading 23-19 late in the second set and needed just two points to even out the match. Cal State Northridge went on a spurt and outscored UCR 5-1 to tie the set at 24, but UC Riverside used blocks from Savannah Thomas and Endersby to go up 25-24, and a Matador error gave UCR a 26-24 win.
Tied at 11-11 in the third set, the Matadors went on a run 14-4 to close out the set and take a 2-1 lead in the match with their 25-15 victory.
In the fourth set, CSUN led early on at 6-1 and maintained its lead at 16-9. UCR got to within three, 17-14, but it was the closest they would get down the stretch as the Matadors held on for the 25-18 win.
Shelby LeDuff paced UC Riverside with 14 kills while Megan Patterson talled 13 digs.
The Highlanders return home to host Long Beach State on Saturday, Oct. 16 at 7:00 pm.
