UC Riverside Volleyball Falls In Three At Long Beach State

Long Beach, CA - The UC Riverside volleyball team opened its last road stretch of the 2010 season on Friday evening with a 3-0 loss at Long Beach State by the scores of 25-14, 25-14 and 25-12 in Big West Conference action at The Pyramid.
Kelly Simpson led the Highlanders (2-27, 0-13) with a game-high 10 kills while adding 11 digs. Amanda Vialpando had 14 digs for UCR while Megan Patterson added 13.
The Highlanders were up 4-1 early in the first set thanks to a Bianca Endersby kill and two block assists from Endersby, Courtney Wypiszynski and Kelly Simpson. UCR maintained its lead at 9-7, but Long Beach tied the set at nine and limited the Highlanders to just five more points the rest of the set as the went on for the 25-14 win.
In the second set, UCR was again up early 6-4, but couldn't hang on as the 49ers went on a 9-1 run to take a 13-7 advantage. The Highlanders got within five points at two more occasions throughout the set, but could not get any closer as Long Beach won 25-14.
UCR was down 5-4 after a Jasmin White kill in the third set, but the 49ers went on a 12-0 run to open up the match at 17-5. Down 24-8 at match point, the Highlanders scored four straight to stall LBSU, but it was too little too late as the 49ers closed out the match 25-12.
UC Riverside closes the road portion of its 2010 schedule on Saturday, Nov. 13 as they travel to Cal State Fullerton for a 7:00 pm start.
