Women's Basketball Withstands Late Seattle Rally To Win 65-56

Riverside, CA - Rheya Neabors tied her career-high with 17 points as the UC Riverside women's basketball team withstood a late Seattle rally to take home the 65-56 victory on Friday afternoon at the Student Recreation Center.
The Highlanders improve to 2-1 on the season, tying the 2006-07 squad for the best-ever start in the Division I history of the program. The Redhawks fall to 0-3 on the year.
UCR led 32-15 at halftime and opened the second period by scoring 12 straight to open its largest margin of the game, 44-15, with 17:39 to go.
Seattle then put on a spurt by outscoring the Highlanders 12-1 over the next four and a half minutes to get within 18, 45-27. The Highlanders quickly countered by pushing their lead out to 28 off a Rheya Neabors three pointer with just over 10 minutes remaining.
The Redhawks continued to chip away at UCR's lead and cut it to nine with 21 seconds left, but the Highlanders were able to hold on for the 65-56 victory.
Neabors led UCR with her career-high tying 17 points, while Nicole Anderson also recorded a career-high with 11. Seattle's Elle Kerfoot led all players with 19 points.
The Highlanders shot 48.4 percent from the field in the first half, limiting the Redhawks to just 15 points, the lowest amount an opposing team has scored in a half since Pacific scored 13 in the first half on February 25, 2010.
UCR led by just six points at the 8:46 juncture in the first period, but used a 15-4 run to close out the half to lead 32-15 at the break.
For the game, the Highlanders shot 49.1 percent from the field while limiting the Redhawks to just 32.0 percent.
