UC Riverside's Kyle Austin To Pursue Professional Basketball Career

Riverside—UC Riverside power forward Kyle Austin announced today that he is forgoing his final year of college eligibility to pursue a career in professional basketball.
"I wouldn't trade my two years at UC Riverside for anything," said Austin. "I have a tremendous amount of respect for the coaching staff and the program, and they all played a big part in helping me reach this point in my development as a basketball player. But at this time I believe that the best way for me to continue that development is to begin my professional career."
Austin transferred to UC Riverside from USC during the 2007-08 season. After sitting out the first seven games of the 2008-09 campaign due to NCAA transfer rules, the Pasadena, CA native averaged 16.2 points and 6.1 rebounds on his way to a First-Team All-Conference nod—the first such honor in the history of the Highlanders men's basketball program. In 2009-10, Austin averaged 17.6 points and 7.4 rebounds on the way to his second consecutive First Team honor.
"Kyle obviously played a significant role in our success over the past two years as we began the process of building a winning tradition here at UC Riverside," said Head Coach Jim Wooldridge. "We wish him the best of luck as he prepares for the next stage of his career, and we will continue to do the things we need to do as a program to build on our recent success."
