White's 11 Saves Not Enough AS UCR Falls 1-0 To UNLV (push play)
8/20/2010 9:15:53 PM | Women's Soccer
Box Score - UNLV 1, UC Riverside 0
Riverside, CA - UC Riverside goalkeeper Jessica White recorded a career-high 11 saves, but it wasn't enough as the UCR women's soccer team dropped a 1-0 decision to UNLV at the UCR Soccer Stadium in both team's season opener on Friday evening (Video Highlights).
The Rebels (1-0-0) outshot the Highlanders 15 to nine, but White made 11 saves to keep her team in the match. Not only are the 11 saves a career-high, but it ties for fifth in Highlanders single-game history for most saves.
"I feel good, and there's a lot to build upon," White stated. "We didn't attack as much as we could tonight, but defensively we did well."
The lone goal of the evening came off a corner kick by UNLV's Macy Jo Harrison at 54:31. Harrison, credited with the assist, lofted the ball into the air and found Amanda Forrester at the far end of the post. Forrester corraled it and kicked it past White for her first goal of the season.
"There were a lot of great things to take from tonight," Head Coach Veronica O'Brien commented. "We had some good momentum at times and good connections. What was tough for us was the thing we were struggling in during training, which was on set pieces, and i think we paid for that tonight."
Offensively, Deborah Musa led UC Riverside with five shots, three of them on goal.
The Highlanders (0-1-0) next hit the pitch as they host Seattle on Friday, Aug. 27 at 7:00 pm at the UCR Soccer Stadium
