Second Half UNLV Rally Leads To 64-36 Victory Over UCR Women's Hoops

Las Vegas, NV - The UC Riverside women's basketball team trailed by just five points heading into halftime at UNLV, but were limited to just 14 points in the second period as they lost 64-36 to the Rebels on Wednesday evening at Cox Pavilion.
The 36 points scored by the Highlanders is the fewest since the team scored 35 points against Eastern Washington on December 17, 2002. The 14 points scored in the second period are also the second-lowest single-half total in the program's Division I history. The previous low was 13 set against San Diego on December 3, 2004.
UC Riverside (0-3) found themselves down just 27-22 at the break, but were held to 21.7 percent shooting (5-of-23) in the second period as the Lady Rebels (3-0) took command of the game. UNLV outscored them 37-14 in the half while hitting 47.8 percent of its shots.
In the first half, UNLV went up 12-2 just four minutes into the game, but the Highlanders scored 10 straight points thanks to six from Natasha Hadley and four from Jessica Ogunnorin. UCR held the Rebels scoreless over the next six minutes as they hit 5-of-11 from the field after opening just 1-for-5.
With the Lady Rebels leading 17-15 with just over seven minutes remaining in the half, the tables turned as UC Riverside was held scoreless over the next five minutes as UNLV mounted a 25-15 lead.
A Leah Washington jumper at the 2:20 mark ended the drought and started a 7-2 run for the Highlanders. Tre'Shonti Nottingham connected on a long ball with 0:49 seconds left, and after a Rebel layup, a Hadley jumper made it 27-22 entering the break.
Hadley and Nottingham led UC Riverside with eight points apeice while Taylor Wallace added six. UNLV's Lenita Sanford led all players with 22 points.
The Highlanders return home for their season opener this Saturday, November 19 against CSU Bakersfield at 2:00 pm at the Student Recreation Center in Riverside.
