UCR Volleyball Concludes Season With 3-0 Loss To UC Santa Barbara

Riverside, CA - The UC Riverside volleyball team concluded the 2011 season on Saturday evening with a 3-0 loss to UC Santa Barbara in Big West Conference action at the Student Recreation Center. The Gauchos (18-11, 11-5) won the first two sets by identical 25-18 scores, and won the third set 25-19.
Prior to the match, UCR celebrated Senior Night, honoring its lone member of the Class of 2012—setter Katie Meyers. With her 31 assists on the night, Meyers moved up to sixth place on the UCR single-season assists charts with 1,122 on the year.
UC Riverside (7-23, 4-12) scored the first two points of the match, but the Gauchos went on an 8-1 run taking an 8-3 lead in the set. The Highlanders scored six of the next eight points thanks to three straight Bianca Endersby kills and kills from Amanda Vialpando and Megan Reza to cut the lead to one, 10-9.
UC Santa Barbara responded with three points of its own to go back up 13-9, and the Highlanders never got closer the rest of the set as UCSB won 25-18.
In the second set, UC Riverside took an early 5-1 lead after two Endersby kills, a Reza kill, a UCSB attack error, and a Reza service ace. UC Santa Barbara slowly chipped away at the Highlanders lead, ultimately tying the set at 12.
Tied at 14-14, the Gauchos made another late run as they scored six consecutive to go up 20-14. Similar to the first set, UCR could not get any closer as UCSB won 25-18.
In the final set, UCSB went up 8-3 early on, and maintained its lead for the rest of the set winning 25-19.
Endersby led the Highlanders with 12 kills while Vialpando added 11, and Shelby LeDuff had a game-high 12 digs.
