Riverside, CA - Four players scored in double-figures on Wednesday evening for the UC Riverside women's basketball team, but the Highlanders fell short as Fresno State came away with the 67-62 victory at the Student Recreation Center.
Tre'Shonti Nottingham scored a game-high tying 18 points off the bench for UCR (2-9), while Natasha Hadley added 16 points and Jessica Ogunnorin and Jamila Williams had 11 apiece. Fresno State's Ki-Ki Moore scored 18 points for the Bulldogs (10-3).
Fresno State led 33-26 at the half, and went up 37-28 after a minute and a half of play in the second period. The Highlanders used an 11-2 run over the next 3:32 to tie the game at 39, capped off by consecutive buckets from Nottingham.
The Bulldogs countered with a run of their own, however, scoring 15 of the next 17 points to go back up by their largest margin of the game, 54-41, with 9:41 remaining. Fresno State's advantage stayed above seven points until the Highlanders closed the gap to five at three different occasions within the last minute of play.
UCR got within five after a Hadley layup with 47 seconds left, but a Rosie Moult three-pointer put the Bulldogs back up by eight. Brittany Palmer responded for UC Riverside with a trey of her own to make it 65-60 with 19 seconds left.
Taylor Thompson hit two free throws on the next possession for Fresno State as they went up by seven with 13 seconds to go, but Nottingham scored on a layup with eight seconds remaining to again close the gap to five.
Thompson was again fouled for the Bulldogs, but missed both free throws with three seconds remaining. The Highlanders pulled down the rebound but could not get a shot off as Fresno State held on for the 67-62 victory.
in the first half of play, the Bulldogs scored first and went up by as many as 11 points, 28-17, with 3:45 left in the half. Nottingham had 11 points in the first period alone as UCR went into the break down by seven.
