UCR Concludes Utah Invitational With 3-0 Loss To Eastern Michigan

Salt Lake City, UT - The UC Riverside volleyball team concluded play at the Utah Invitational on Saturday afternoon with a 3-0 loss to Eastern Michigan by the scores of 25-20, 25-21 and 25-17.
Tied at 15 in the first set, the Eagles (9-2) ran off four consecutive points before an EMU service error stopped the rally. The Highlanders (1-9) got to within three, 21-18, but could not get any closer as Eastern Michigan won the first set 25-20.
UC Riverside fell behind early in set two 7-2, but crawled within just a point at 15-14 capped off by an Amanda Vialpando kill. The Eagles then scored three straight to go back up by four, 18-14.
With EMU leading at set-point 24-18, the Highlanders began a comeback using a Bianca Endersby kill followed by a service ace for the junior, and then block assists by Annishia McCoy and Katie Meyers to close to within 24-21. However, Eastern Michigan held on for the 25-21 victory as a service error by Endersby ended the set.
Down 23-12 in the third set, UCR attempted another comeback scoring four straight points on two Endersby kills, one McCoy kill, and block assists by Endersby and McCoy.
However, the rally was too late as the Eagles scored their final points sandwiched between a UCR point for the 25-17 victory.
Vialpando had 14 kills to lead UC Riverside, while Megan Patterson added 13 digs.
The Highlanders next play in the Hilton Stockon Invitational for their final tournament of the 2011 season beginning on Friday, September 16.
