Box Score - #20 San Diego 3, UC Riverside 0
San Diego, CA - The UC Riverside volleyball team played its second top-25 opponent of the season on Saturday morning as the No. 20 ranked San Diego Toreros defeated the Highlanders 3-0 in the second game of the USD Invitational.
USD (5-0) took a 25-17 win in set one, but the Highlanders (1-5) turned an 11-10 advantage in the second set into a 17-10 lead. UCR capitalized on three Toreros errors during that span, and used a Kristin Van Dongen service ace, a Shelby LeDuff kill, and an Amanda Vialpando block to cap off the run.
Unfortunately for the Highlanders, San Diego showed why they are a nationally ranked team as they outscored UCR 12-2 to take a 22-19 lead. An Annishia McCoy kill combined with another USD error closed the gap to one, 22-21, but three consecutive kills by the Toreros ended the set 25-21.
Tied at 11 in the third set, USD went on a 5-0 run to open the frame at 16-11. UCR never got closer than five the rest of the way as San Diego won the match 25-16.
Bianca Endersby led the Highlanders with nine kills while LeDuff had 11 digs to lead the team.
UC Riverside concludes play at the USD Invitational with a 5 pm match later on Saturday against Northeastern.
