UCR's Olafsen Named Big West Women's Defensive Soccer Player of the Week

Irvine, CA—The Big West announced today that UC Riverside freshman goalkeeper Jessica Olafsen is the conference's defensive player of the week for matches played from August 29 through September 4. (View video highlights from the weekend)
The San Diego, CA native played all 180 minutes between the pipes for the Highlanders over the weekend as the UC Riverside beat Southern Utah, 2-0, and dropped a 1-0 decision to perennial NCAA participant Michigan. The lone opposition goal of the week came on a penalty kick following a UCR foul in the box.
Olafsen stopped a combined 17 of 18 shots on goal in the two matches for a 0.50 goals against average. She upped her record to 3-1-0 on the year and boasts a GAA for the season of 0.48.
This is the second time this year that a UC Riverside player has earned defensive player of the week honors: Kayde Hensley earned the award a week ago for her game-winning, overtime goal against San Jose State and her defensive effort in a 3-0 shutout of Mississippi State at the UCR Women's Soccer Invitational.
The Highlanders hit the road this weekend as they travel to Saint Mary's where they will face Utah on Friday, September 9 at 1:30 pm PT and Virginia Commonwealth on Sunday, September 11 at 11 am.
