Riverside—The Big West released its postseason men's soccer awards Monday afternoon and three members of the Highlanders are among the three all-conference teams: Jose Diaz and Aaron Long, who garnered first-team accolades, and Jimmy Martinez, who received a third-team nod (View UCR's all-time Big West all-conference selections).
The Highlanders set program Division I era records for wins (10), goals (37) and assists (40) this season, and all three student-athletes played important roles in the team's success.
It is the third all-conference honor for Diaz who was named to the honorable mention teams as a sophomore and junior. The Corona, CA native had three scores on the season, all off of penalty kicks, and two of which were game winners. The first decisive score came in the season-opening victory over Marist (box score/recap), and the second was in the Highlanders October 17 win over UC Irvine (box score/recap/video highlights).
Long earned his first all-conference honor leading the Highlanders in goals, with six, and points, with 13. His header in the second overtime at UNLV was the game-winner in a 4-3 victory (box score/recap) which saw UCR runs its record to 5-0 on the season.
Martinez finished just behind Long in UC Riverside's goals and points list with five and 12 on the year respectively. His first-half score against Nebraska Ohama proved to be the difference maker in a 1-0 victory (box score/recap) that ran the Highlanders record to 7-0 on the year.
