Turnovers Hurt UCR Women's Hoops In 67-46 Loss At UC Davis

Davis, CA - For the second straight game, the UC Riverside women's basketball team turned the ball over 26 times, and could not recover from a 16-point first-half deficit as UC Davis earned a 67-46 win over the Highlanders on Saturday afternoon at The Pavilion.
UCR falls to 5-19 overall and 3-9 in Big West play, while the Aggies improve to 15-8, 7-4.
Both teams were cold from the floor to start the game, and UC Riverside continued that trend throughout the half as the team made just 31.6 percent (6-of-19) from the field.
The Highlanders missed two layups within the first minute, but were down just 4-2 at the first media timeout. The Aggies came out of the timeout scoring eight of the next 10 points, opening a 13-4 lead at the 11:05 mark.
Tre'Shonti Nottingham picked up her third foul of the game with just under nine minutes left in the half, and was forced to sit on the bench for the rest of the half as UC Davis took a 33-17 advantage into the break.
Both teams came out of the half hitting from the field, as UCR went 4-for-6, and UCD went 4-for-8. The Highlanders cut the Aggies lead to 13 on multiple occasions, the last at 41-28 at the 15:21 mark.
UC Riverside hit just one of its next four shots, however, as UC Davis pushed its lead out to 23, 53-30, with 10:40 remaining. The advantage hovered above the 20-point mark for the rest of the game as the Aggies cruised to a 67-46 victory.
Both teams' shooting improved in the period as UCR hit 44.8 percent, and UCD hit 46.6 percent. The Aggies outscored the Highlanders 34-29 in the half, but UCR owned the boards, grabbing 40 rebounds compared to 26 for UC Davis.
Nottingham scored 11 of her game-high 15 points in the second period, while Kiara Harewood added seven points for UC Riverside.
The 26 turnovers by the Highlanders ties the season high, set in the team's most recent game at Pacific on February 9.
UC Riverside now returns to Riverside to host UC Santa Barbara on Thursday, February 16 at 7:00 pm at the Student Rec Center.
