Seattle Earns Non-Conference 64-42 Victory Over UCR Women's Basketball

Seattle, WA—The UC Riverside women's basketball team played its 2011-12 road finale on Sunday afternoon, dropping a 64-42 decision to Seattle University at the Connolly Center.
The Highlanders fall to 5-23 overall, while the Redhawks improve to 17-9.
The lid was on both baskets in the early going, as just four points combined were scored through the first 4:23 of action. SU went on a 6-0 run over the next minute, but UC Riverside responded by scoring six of the next eight points to trail by two, 10-8, at the 12:57 mark.
Another run by the Redhawks put them up by 10, 18-10, as the lead peaked as high as 12, 24-12, with just over six minutes remaining in the half.
Jazzmin Lewis' layup two minutes later started a 6-0 scoring run for the Highlanders, as Natasha Hadley added two jumpers as the lead was halved, 24-18, with 2:59 on the clock.
Seattle would score the final four points of the half, however, taking a 28-18 lead into the break.
UC Riverside cut the advantage to single-digits on a free throw from Kiara Harewood after 1:52 gone by in the second period, but the Highlanders were held without a point over the next few minutes as Seattle opened up a 19-point lead, 40-21, at the 16:09 mark.
The Redhawks lead reached as high as 27 as UCR got it below 20 on one occasion the rest of the half.
Seattle's Talisa Rhea led all players with 14 points, while two others scored in double-figures. Jessica Ogunnorin led the Highlanders with 11 points while Hadley added 10.
UC Riverside shot 33.3 percent from the field for the game, while Seattle hit 36.8 percent of its shots. The Redhawks also grabbed 51 boards compared to 36 for UCR.
The Highlanders have just one game remaining on their regular season schedule, a March 1 Big West matchup against UC Irvine at 7:00 pm at the Student Recreation Center in Riverside.
